As part of their ever
increasing local publicity Santa Pod Raceway took over Wellingborough Town
Centre in order to promote the forthcoming FIA European Finals.
DragsterWorld went along and all we can say is wow... what a great
evening! The route of the parade was packed and at 7pm, the 20 plus cars
and bikes went round the towns one way system twice before parking up near
the static display of the FireForce Jet Car and Santa Pod's Top Fuel
Dragster and Funny Cars. The mobile 'Pod Shop was also in attendance
selling a wide variety of souvenirs.
The actual parade was a great mix of cars and bikes such as John Hackney's
9.50 bike to John Webster's superb MG Street Eliminator car. Gary Picardo
was in the Wheelie Stingray. There were Hot Rods, pure race cars such as
Grumpy's Dodge, US muscle cars and at the rear Ronnie Picardo's Jet Truck.
Hearing the rumble of a highly tuned V8 outside McDonalds on Friday
evening... what could possibly be better!
Once the parade had ended the crowds wandered around the static display
asking questions, asking for autographs and looking at cars that are not
usually parked in Wellingborough Town Centre. There was a fantastic
atmosphere and everyone seemed to be really enjoying the event. Barry
Sheavills was also there signing autographs and talking to fans and the
general public. Hopefully dome of those people may now be interested
enough to come and see what its all about.
At around 8.30pm the crowds
had begun to disappear and most of the cars and bikes started to make
there way home, or in Paul Marston's case back to the Pod ready for the
Peak Performance event tomorrow.
Everyone we spoke to agreed the event had been a great success, probably
more so than anyone thought it would be, and hopefully it will happen
again next year as it was a really good advert for the sport. So well done
to all those that worked hard to put it together.
And finally we can confirm that there were no burnouts, wheelies or engine
revving what so ever during the event... honest!

Jon Websters fantastic new MG Street Eliminator car has just rolled out of
the
Webster Race Engineering workshop and we can confirm that as always Jon
and his team
have produced a stunning looking race car! If the turbo charged beast
performs on the
track as well as it does on the street the it will be one impressive race
car.

Gary Picardo surprised onlookers when he lifted the front of the Wheelie
Stingray.

It looks good from any angle!
