SUMMER NATIONALS - SANTA POD SUNDAY |
The largest crowd we've seen at a sportsman meeting for a long time witnessed another good days racing at the Pod. The weather, although overcast, stayed fine all day. The headwind we mentioned yesterday was even stronger today and we are it sure must have affected times. The racing ran though very quickly, there were hardly any stoppages for breakages and the finals were finished by 4 o'clock The Wratten Bros made another two passes in the Top Methanol Funny Car. The team seemed to be getting a handle on the car now and were sure they will be a challenge sooner rather than later. We must mention our good friend Steve Ingham, the 9.90 bike rookie took the win in an event for the first time today. Steve finished 2nd when last at the Pod and was very pleased to take the win today in his first season on the bike. Well done Steve! There was some very exciting racing in CCSE and Super Pro ET. Steve Pateman took the win in CCSE, beating Steve Neimantas 8.73 / 166 to 8.94 / 157. In Super Pro ET Steve Johnson (7.78 on a 7.65 dial-in) beat Barry Giles (7.95 on a 7.80 dial-in). In Super Modified Danny Cockeril (7.76 / 176) beat Jon Hogarth (8.12 / 162). In all a very successful meeting. We are sure the SPRC are pleased with how it went and we hope they decide to do something like this again next season. We have posted a batch of photos below, a few more than yesterday as I'm starting to get to grips with the new camera now. Thanks for stopping by... please check the news page soon for details of our next coverage. Gary & Phil |

John Hales - CCSE

What a way to go out... Round 1 CCSE, a long smokey burnout from Andy Oliver fills the car with smoke, the door is naturally opened on the reverse back. When the car stops Andy's crew man slams the door shut... smash! The whole door window shatters covering the track in glass and putting Andy out. A really unlucky way to lose a race!
