EASTER THUNDERBALL - SANTA POD

SATURDAY

The weather, although not as good as predicted, was great today. The sun shone for most of the day and it was really warm. We were quite surprised when we arrived at the track to find a large queue at the pay gates. The crowd, obviously brought out by the nice weather, was one of the best we can remember at the Saturday of the Easter meet. Any racing would seem good after the long winter break but we did see some good action on the track today. All classes got in a good number of qualifiers and we saw some entertaining racing from the sportsman ranks.

In Top Methanol Dave Wilson ran a fantastic 5.69 at 252mph straight off the trailer! Later in the day Rob Turner ran 7.39/141, Steph Milam a 8.88/150 and Doug Bond a 7.27/119. Doug Bond got the wheels up off the line and a bang was heard just past half track, hopefully no damage was done. Martin Hill ran a 6.45/235 in the newly painted Fireforce 2 car. The highlight of the day should have been Susanne Callin putting in a licensing pass in the Top Fuel car but just as the car was been towed into position behind the tower the heavens opened and so with the time at 6o'clock racing was called off for the day.

If your at the track tomorrow don't forget Bob Jarrett will be giving a brief tour of a funny car at 10am. Plans are to give the talk and then fire the car up... certainly an event not to be missed. Also it may be a good idea to stop by the Carter pit. They have some lovely A2 poster for sale at £3 and after buying 2 today we can guarantee they are worth every penny.

All in all a good first day of the meeting... cant wait till tomorrow.

Thanks for tuning in - Gary for DragsterWorld (due to Phil clearing off to a wedding reception and leaving me to do this on my own!)

Our good friend Steve Ingham is debuting his bike at this weekends meet. He had planned to run in 10.90 bike but after discovering you had to have a headlight to run in 10.90 Steve was forced to step up to 9.90 bike. He's made a good start so far, running a personal best 10.2 today.

What a mean looking car!

A new paint job for Jon Tebbanon.

Roger Moore got a bit off a shock this afternoon. The Herald leapt wildly off the line swiftly pitched onto its side smashed straight into the Christmas Tree and slid, tree and all, into the barrier.

The car lies on its side with the very bent tree sticking out above the door.

After a few minutes Roger climbed out of the car and was escorted to the ambulance but was later announced A OK. Proceedings were held up for a time while the tree was replaced and debris removed from the track.

Jon Spuffard warms the motor.

Dave Wilson left the so quickly I almost missed him!

Another new paint job, this time on the PT Bruiser

What's better than long smoky burnouts from street cars?

That's all for today... be sure to tune in for more updates tomorrow.
