CANNONBALL - SANTA POD

SATURDAY

We got to the track at about 1pm and saw a great afternoons racing. The highlight was without doubt John Spuffard running a 5.339-259.12 in Fuel Funny Car which is a new European record. Another notable incident was an accident suffered by Ian Hook in CCSE. Ian suffered what looked like big engine damage near the top end and then hit the wall. A good driving job prevented the car from rolling and we are happy to report that Ian is A OK. Aside from the racing the rest was a little disappointing. Few of the promised celebrities arrived... Steve Berry, Vicky Butler Henderson ( Both Top Gear ) and Bez (Happy Mondays) were the only people there who you could call celebrities. There was no Damon Hill or Carl Fogarty but to be fair to the Pod signs were placed outside the gates warning fans of this. The Barry Sheavills vs F1 race did take place. Unsurprisingly Barry won easily running a 7.54/102.77 The F1 car driven by Matthew Mortlock ran 11.47/140.38. The event that had been publicized heavily in the press.. the world record jump by Captain Gumball did not take place. Apparently the ramp to be used for the jump 'collapsed' meaning that it could not be brought on to the track. Not too much of a disappointment for us hard core fans but surely very disappointing for the first time visitors.

That's about all for today.. we have posted a few photos from the racing below. We also followed the Custom Car Street Eliminator Cruise and photos of that can be found by clicking here.
